Vocational Training Programs
Navsarjan, along with local mahila Mandal, empowers slum residents through vocational training.
1. Computer Education:
- Slum communities often lack access to technology. These classes bridge the digital divide.
- Early computer skills benefit students and give them a competitive edge.
- Two computer centers with seven computers each offer one-hour classes per batch.
- The curriculum includes practical training in MS Office, graphic design (CorelDraw, Photoshop), and accounting (Tally).
- Additional skills may be introduced based on student progress.
- Computer literacy enhances their employability in the modern job market.
2. Tailoring Program:
- Urban poverty is rising; slum families need extra income to survive.
- Many women face limitations finding outside work due to childcare or societal norms.
- Tailoring classes equip women with income-generating skills close to home.
- Though with limited reach, these classes have trained over 200 women per year.
- The six-month program costs Rs. 900 per participant.
