Most of the students hailing from slums do not have the opportunity to learn computer in their early schooling days. For most of them getting their hands on computer is like a dream coming true!!! Going to a private computer academy is beyond their reach. Realizing their desire to acquire skills in computer technology Navsarjan has started computer classes right near their doorstep. Besides conducting computer classes in the community halls owned by slum women Navsarjan also runs a mobile unit to conduct computer classes in two slums.
The training is available to school-going students, school drop-outs, unemployed youth and working persons who are desirous of upgrading their computing skills. A nominal monthly fee between Rs 100 to Rs 150/- is charged.
The computer syllabus is designed to meet the needs of different age and academic groups. Syllabus includes software’s like MS Office 2007, Coral Draw, Paint Brush, Tally, Adobe Photoshop etc., Besides this, different activities are meticulously planned to make the learning process more exciting and interesting. This allows them to remain focused. Weekly tests are conducted to check their progress.
Having noted the inability of students to read or write in English we have introduced basic English program. This move has been appreciated by the students. They are reaping the benefits of being part of computer classes. Along with computer skills they also learn to read and write in English.
